The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of diesel engines, heavy equipment, and vehicle diagnostics, and possess strong leadership skills. As the Head Diesel Mechanic, you will oversee the maintenance and repair of a wide range of diesel-powered equipment, ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely. This position requires excellent troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor and guide junior mechanics.Who we are: L.J. - Leadership & Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of diesel mechanics, ensuring high-quality performance and adherence to maintenance schedules.
- Diagnostic Expertise: Oversee the diagnosis and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and other mechanical components in heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on diesel engines, ensuring all vehicles and equipment are operating at peak performance.
- Training & Mentorship: Provide hands-on training and guidance to junior mechanics, ensuring team members are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities are performed in compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of repairs, services, and maintenance activities using company software systems.
- Tool & Equipment Management: Oversee the use and maintenance of tools and diagnostic equipment, ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and service managers to ensure timely and efficient service delivery to meet customer needs.
- Vendor Interaction: Interact with vendors and suppliers for parts and materials.
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Experience: Minimum of 5-10+ years of experience in diesel engine repair, heavy equipment maintenance, and vehicle diagnostics, with a proven track record of success. Experience working on Heavy Equipment, including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Pans, Electrical Systems, GPS, Hydraulics, etc.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience managing and mentoring a team of mechanics.
- Technical Expertise: Proficient in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and other heavy equipment components.
- Mechanical Skills: Strong knowledge of automotive diagnostics, hydraulics, suspension systems, and alignments.
- Tools & Equipment: Skilled in the use of hand tools, diagnostic software, and mechanical systems, with the ability to perform electrical repairs using tools such as soldering irons.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, clients, and other departments.
- License/Certification: NYS License required; CDL preferred.
- Safety Focused: Adherence to all safety protocols and the ability to promote a safe working environment.
