Description Position at MTA Headquarters JOB TITLE: Head Nurse (Float/Field)SALARY: $92,000 DEPT/DIV: Occupational Health Services (OHS)SUPERVISOR: Manager, NursesHOURS OF WORK: 7:30AM -3:30PM/8:00 AM-4:30PM (or as required)LOCATION: 300 Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11201 (additional OHS & field locations within the 5 boroughs, Long Island, and Westchester) SUMMARY:This position is directly responsible for the daily coordination of all Occupational Health Service Medical Clinic activities at Medical Assessment Centers and Field Locations. The Head Nurse Supervises Staff Nurses while providing float coverage at New York City Transit, LIRR, MNR Medical Assessment Centers and offsite Clinic locations. The Head Nurse interacts daily with the OHS multidisciplinary team to ensure the Clinic runs smoothly and efficiently.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Head Nurse Float coverage at Occupational Health Service Medical Assessment Facilities
- Triage, schedule, and monitor all clinic visits.
- Perform diagnostic screening elements for all OHS Clinic Visits.
- Perform drug and alcohol collections on employees/candidates as needed.
- Provides Support to the Nurse Case Management function on a clinical level.
- Monitor and Coordinate Case Management activities for MNR, LIRR, MTA PD and other MTA agencies, if needed.
- Calibrate equipment daily.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and report findings to vendor and Manager of Nurses.
- Train new staff on clinic protocols, procedures, and Case management workflow
- Perform monthly quality assurance on diagnostic testing capabilities of all staff.
- Provide daily schedules and Nursing staffing reports to Nurse Management.
- Assist with drug and alcohol testing of follow-up program participants.
- Assist physicians with examinations/evaluations as needed.
- Order supplies and perform inventory checks
- Record test data into electronic Medical Records system.
- Audit all data entries for accuracy.
- Administer Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria and Influenza vaccines as needed.
- Monitor temperature of vaccine refrigerator and records in daily log
- Provide emergency care to employees/candidates.
- Provide testimony and/or affidavits for hearings and trials.
- Perform fieldwork.
- Other Duties as Assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Must be able to float to other OHS locations when needed to cover vacation and sick leave.
- Must be willing to travel occasionally to other OHS locations in Connecticut and Westchester for Annual influenza programs, and other Health and Wellness programs
- Knowledge of case management and workers' compensation laws.
- Computer skills required.
- Phlebotomy skills required.
- Must possess good interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a valid NY State Nursing License
- Requires a CPR-D certification.
- A minimum of three years' (3) experience as a Staff Nurse is required.
- Must successfully complete Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) Certification course to become BAT certified under DOT/FRA regulatory guidelines.
PREFFERED:
- Occupational Health experience preferred.
- CAOHC certification preferred.
- Knowledge of FRA medical policies and procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of MNR medical policies and procedures preferred.
