The head of bids is a leadership role within the bid team, providing the interface between the bidding team and the Americas hub. The head of bids leads a team, formed of bidding managers and assistants, working with our global bid writing and bid design teams, business stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure that Mace submits high-quality bid responses that have the best possible chance of success.

The head of bids will have a track record of success in leading major bids for projects and frameworks, experience in leading diverse and inclusive teams, and the drive and enthusiasm to support Mace in its future growth. They will be a part of the global work winning senior leadership team reporting into the work winning director, and successful undertaking of the role requires effective collaboration within that team.

The head of bids must be able to plan for succession and build in people management and sub-contracting practices to effectively respond to bidding demands as required, helping to build a department fit to service our ambitious growth plans, incorporating international expansion.

You'll be responsible for:

* Effective strategy and required leadership building, maintaining and developing an exemplar team of bidding professionals.

* Ensuring full visibility of the future business pipeline and upcoming capture and bidding priorities/requirements to help manage demand, reporting and communicating where appropriate.

* Supervising or supporting the capture management process for upcoming pursuits

* Understanding clients' requirements and evaluation criteria, and leading the Mace bid team to effectively respond at all times.

* Ensuring all bids are effectively managed in line with the company's agreed bid process.

* Raising the standard in how bids should be managed and produced across the Americas hub.

* Building and maintaining effective relationships with diverse business units (BU) across Mace.

* Ensuring adherence to Mace brand guidelines or any agreed bid-specific standards.

* Leading or assisting in the development of appropriate winning strategies for specific bids, taking ownership for their implementation and communication during the bid stage and leading the generation of appropriate bid response content.

* Maintaining an effective interface between the Americas Hub and the bidding team, ensuring the business is well-positioned to win work.

* Following the company bid processes, supporting their implementation and ongoing development.

* Including the effective administration of the go-no-go and bid process gateways.

* Being accountable for the output of the Americas bidding team, in line with bid standards and guidelines, and corporate policy.

* Providing line management and team leadership, allocating and overseeing work, and creating effective succession planning and career development.

* Managing change programmes including implementing new processes, systems and standards as appropriate.

* Providing leadership and management of strategic grade bids, whilst overseeing the delivery of all other bids within the Americas Hub.

* Overseeing the reporting, ensuring robust data management across leads, pipeline, wins and losses.

* Contributing to and influencing the strategic and creative direction of the bid function.

Line management duties

* Managing and developing direct reports.

* Managing the resource allocation of the team to ensure appropriate allocation, and objectives and deadlines are met.

* Identifying development needs for individuals to feed into the overall department learning and development plans (if applicable).

* Providing appropriate coaching and feedback to members of the department outside of line management to support the ongoing improvement of the department.

* Contributing to and influencing the department's overall resource planning.

* Providing tactical management and delegation for specific projects.

You'll need to have:

* A degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline and with professional membership in APMP.

* A detailed understanding of bidding in the Americas including relevant procurement regulations.

* A very high standard of written English, skilled in editing copy to correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with the ability to shape compelling responses.

* Understanding of private sector procurement practices, including negotiated tendering. You have an understanding of professional service and/or the building/infrastructure industry.

* Significant experience in bid management within the construction and/or consultancy environment. You have extensive writing experience in a professional and/or journalistic environment.

* You are digitally savvy in using Adobe software, i.e., InDesign and SharePoint, to build lasting client relationships and support strong, motivated teams.

* Experience translating business, brand strategy to content or communications.

* Demonstrable experience working in property and infrastructure sectors and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
