The Head of External Communications for AIG is an integral leader on the Global Marketing and Communications team. This leader is responsible for external communications strategy, focused on positioning AIG as leading global insurer that helps clients and partners manage complex risks and unlock opportunity around the world. The Head of External Communications will oversee a team focused on proactive media engagement, executive communications, financial communications, issues management, and industry thought leadership. Reporting to the Global Head of Corporate Communications, this leader will build and execute a strategic, external communications plan with the goal of gaining recognition for AIG's transformation and achievements while effectively communicating the company's strategy for profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Build, protect and enhance AIG's reputation through clear and impactful communications.
+ Drive high-impact media coverage that positions AIG as a leading global insurer and differentiates the company from competitors.
+ Elevate thought leadership and visibility of the company's C-suite leaders through top-tier media coverage and conference opportunities.
+ Serve as a company spokesperson.
+ Write press releases, talking points, speeches, Q&As, and briefings for external audiences.
+ Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on corporate communications and reputation matters.
+ Collaborate with members of the Global Marketing and Communications team on external communications campaigns and ensure messaging reflects an enterprise perspective.
+ Oversee measurement and monitoring of media and evolve communications strategies based on data and insights.
+ Remain up to date with emerging platforms, trends and best practices.
Qualifications:
+ Minimum of 15 years of global communications experience. (Experience in the financial services or insurance sectors is a plus).
+ Experience working with tier one national and international media.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
+ Strong track record as a people leader, including team leadership and people development.
+ Exceptional writing and editing skills.
+ Strong business acumen and financial literacy. Understands the public company needs of a large financial services company.
+ Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively at all levels of the company.
+ Excellent project management skills with a high degree of focus on the details.
+ Crisis and issues management experience.
+ Demonstrates excellent judgement and has an ownership mentality.
+ Calm under pressure and solution focused when unforeseen circumstances arise.
For positions based in NYC, the base salary range is $180,000 - $230,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
