Summary

Join a supportive, close-knit small community of 30 to 35 students as the Head of School at Southshire Community School! Southshire is a multi-age community where an emergent curriculum is driven by the children's interests and inquiries.

This full-time role offers a flexible work environment where you'll lead the school's mission, vision, and daily operations. Southshire Community School is a small (30-35 students), Vermont-approved, progressive, family-oriented elementary through middle school (K-8) which focuses on the individual as a learner. Job Details

Full Time: Year-round position; school year is September through June, and summer (July and August) requires prep time for school year.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status: Exempt

Reports to: Board of Directors via the Chair of the Board

Job Duties

Administrative

  • The Head of School will be the principal executive officer of the school and will, in general, supervise and control all of the business and affairs of the school. This includes daily operations of the school such as oversight of: building and grounds maintenance, enrollment, fiscal planning, and community engagement (e.g. family communication, committee coordination, student support).
  • The Head of School will work with the Lead Teacher to ensure all Vermont Agency and Board of Education (A.O.E. and B.O.E.) regulations are met.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive educational environment for students, families, teachers, and the broader community.
  • Grant funding: research opportunities and prepare grant proposals/applications and reports; manage all documentation, record keeping, and reporting as required.
  • Lead or assign the maintenance of student and school records as required by governing bodies (e.g. student records, teacher records, school inspections, educational reviews, FERPA, etc.)
  • Lead the teaching team and broader school community in maintaining a collaborative and communicative environment in support of community learning and professional growth. This includes regular teaching staff meetings, one-on-one support of teachers, parent meetings and communications, board and committee meetings, teacher evaluations, and development planning.
  • Perform all duties as listed under “Operations Task List” document.

Educational

  • The Head of School also works with the Lead Teacher to ensure that objectives are met and deliverables completed on time.
  • The Head of School will act as a substitute in the event a teacher is absent.

Other

  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Pay: $67,500.00 - $74,000.00 per year
