HEAD RESIDENTNON-BARGAINING UNIT, EXEMPT, PART TIMEBASIC FUNCTIONThe Head Resident participates in the professional on-call duty rotation.The Head Resident will be responsible for covering duty one night per week and one weekend per month.The Head Resident is responsible for all duties necessary for the administration of the residence halls as part of the academic system and appropriate to the educational philosophy of Vermont State University and the Office of Residential Life.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESAdministrative Functions:Attend staff meetings and training workshops as scheduled by the Office of Residential Life.Maintain appropriate records and prepare required reports.Issue and control building keys.Act as official university host for parents and visitors.Perform other administrative duties as assigned.Educational Functions:Create a hall environment consistent with the academic and developmental purposes of the University.Serve as a resource person for students needing information and counseling.Participate in on-call duty rotation (experience and time-dependent.)Perform other educational duties as assigned.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDDirect supervision is received from the Assistant Director of Residence Life.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA bachelor's degree with previous experience working in a residential environment or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESKnowledge:Understanding of the educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University including attention to accessibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion.Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, particularly in a rural setting.Awareness of developmental, holistic, and proactive approaches to student success.Skills:Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Able to meet students where they are, ensure they feel listened to, and that they are comfortable working with advisors to navigate challenges and concerns as they come up.Strong problem-solving skills.Abilities:Demonstrated a positive attitude regarding Vermont State University and a desire to improve student outcomes, including attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals within the University and capacity to work as part of a team to collaborate and choose student success.Ability to collaborate effectively with college personnel as well as families/guardians and external resources in carrying out the various coordination, liaison, and advocacy aspects of the job.Ability to work weekends and evenings to provide student support outside of normal business hours.Location: Randolph CampusVermont State University is a part of the Vermont State Colleges System (VSCS).
