The Head Swim Coach is responsible for the swim program at Bethesda Country Club (BCC). This position develops and manages the swim programs, ranging from learning to swim through summer competitive swim. An interest and availability for instruction beyond the summer swim season is a plus. In addition, this position manages and supervises swim team personnel for optimum performance.ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Management of the BCC swim program
- Accountable for swim team schedule and holding regular practices
- Responsible for all hiring, scheduling, training, and disciplinary action for all swim team employees in conjunction with Club management
- Organizer for swim meets including coordination with guest team(s), BCC staff, coaches, and swimmers
- Ensure strong communication between coaches, swim team members, parents, and pool committee
- Uphold the philosophy of the swim team (that adheres to BCC goals and values)
- Lead and motivate swim team members to be the best they can be
- Ensure that all swim team equipment is properly maintained and accounted for throughout the season
- Suspend swim team programs and/or diving operations that are deemed unsafe or out of compliance with BCC swim team policies or practices
- Act as a subject matter expert, where appropriate, to assist the Aquatics director in manners of policy, equipment, and other forms of expertise
- Maintain records of each swim team member and maintain the Swim Team Record Board
- Attend all practices and meets while actively leading the practices
- Participate in opening swim team meetings and attend required team events as directed
- Abide by the current by laws of the CCSDA as well as the Bylaws, Rules, and Customs of BCC
- Prepare meet entries in a timely manner
- Post entries and results for all home meets to CCSDA
- Update and present all swim awards
- Prepare, copy, and distribute heat sheets
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facilities, especially the Coach's Office and other storage areas, and ensure the set-up and break-down of the pool for practices and meets
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certifications
- Acute knowledge of stroke technique as well as starts, finishes, and other rules related to legal competitive swimming
- Effective leader and communicator with both swimmers and parents
- Acute knowledge of swim operations
- Experience as a competitive swimmer
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to a wide variety of constituents, including both swimmers and parents
- Ability to maintain quality and safety standards and coordinate quality assurance programs in areas of responsibility
