HEAD COACH (Senior High School)
Position Title: Head Coach (Senior High)
Department: Athletics
Reports to: Principal/Athletic Director
* General
Each head coach shall coordinate the program of the sport he/she coaches between the high
school and the junior high school. (He/she shall be directly responsible to the athletic director in the
performance of his/her athletic duties.)
* Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The senior high school head coaches shall be directly responsible to the athletic director in their coaching duties and shall:
1. Serve as the varsity head coaches.
* Be responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of their assistant
coaches.
* Cooperate with the athletic director in the preparation and administration of an
annual budget for athletics by:
a) Compiling statements of needs, equipment, supplies, and maintenance for
the next school year.
b) Counseling with the athletic director and recommending the purchase of all
athletic equipment and supplies.
4. Be responsible for the care of all athletic equipment by:
a) Preparing and keeping current an inventory of all equipment, fixtures, and
properties of the athletic program in the school to which they are assigned.
b) Seeing that proper maintenance is done.
* Assist the athletics director in developing a public relations program designed to
keep patrons informed as to the accomplishments of the athletic program. They
shall:
a) Cooperate with the community agencies and the press.
b) Plan consistent and continuous efforts to maintain good home-school
relations
6. Assume the responsibility of the school's participation in all interscholastic
conference activities in athletics by:
a) Keeping abreast of all rules and regulations of the Arkansas Activities
Association and the AAA Conference and see to it that the school, in all
matters, complies with these regulations.
b) Making all necessary reports to the conference in cooperation with the
principal.
c) Attending all meetings necessary to properly implement conference rules
and regulations.
7. Make game schedule, secure game officials, meet visiting teams, supply visiting
team needs, and take care of other requirements for orderly performance at all
games.
* Assume responsibility for the general management (use, care, and maintenance)
of athletic fields, facilities, dressing rooms, etc., under his/her supervision.
* Be responsible to the athletic director for eligibility list of players at the beginning of the season.
10. Be responsible to the principal with regard to travel list of players, means of travel, departure time, etc., when it is necessary for athletes to leave school early.
* Submit a list of names of players to be scheduled in the athletic periods and be
responsible for recommending the transfer of students of the athletic program.
* Be directly responsible to the principal and athletic director for their behavior and the behavior of their assistants while carrying out any of their duties.
* Cooperate with the athletic director.
* Make every effort to attend the sport contests at their school and the junior high
school.
15. Encourage all athletes to participate in other sports.
* Be responsible for developing and administering policies on athletic awards. They shall submit a list of names to the athletic director of those recommended for
athletic awards.
17. See that no profanity is used by coaches or players.
* Be responsible for the behavior of athletes under their supervision.
* Be responsible in seeing that each athlete has a physical examination before
issuing any equipment.
20. Be responsible for explanation and enrollment in the school insurance program.
21. Responsible for securing travel expenses for all out-of-town events through the athletic director. All coaches must hold a CDL and will be required to drive school buses on athletic trips if their respective teams require a bus for which a CDL is mandated. If for any reason a coach's license is suspended or revoked, their coaching and teaching positions will be subject to review and may be terminated. You must consult with the transportation director about your medical conditions that relate to driving.
* Perform other duties from time to time that may be assigned by the principal or
athletic director.
240 Day Contract Coaches
* Work 5- 8 hour days or 4- 10 hour days throughout the summer
* 6 Hours a day (30 hours a week) minimum needs to be committed to athlete development
* This can include camps, open gyms, weights, or any other practice methods used to improve athletes
* 2 hours towards grades through 10th-12th
* 2 hours towards grades through 7th-9th
* 2 hours towards grades 6th grade and under
* 2 Hours a day (10 hours a week) needs to be committed towards individual and program development
* This can include but not limited to
* Facility cleaning/Maintenance
* Professional Development
* Community Outreach
* Parent Meetings
* Athlete Recruitment
* Both Getting your athletes recruited to colleges and recruiting in school athletes to participate
* Fundraising Plan
* Improving schemes/techniques used in sport assigned
* Days/Hours need to be logged in and out with Athletic Director
* Ensure all equipment is Inventoried
* Make sure all PO's are closed or completed
* Anything else assigned by Administration

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
* Provide leadership for a district wide athletic program that strives for maximum participation and maintains respectability in competition while competing at the highest levels possible
* Function under the direct supervision of the superintendent of schools and works together with the principals to supervise the entire athletic program
* Administers all school district policies and procedures as well as the rules of the conference and state association
* Observes and evaluates coaches sufficiently in order to make future recommendations in terms of job expectations and job assignments
* Helps the principals and superintendent in the hiring process of new staff members
* Makes recommendations for the improvement of the facilities to the superintendent of schools for consideration and referral
* Reviews game schedules that are developed by the head coaches, and approves them for publication
* Contracts all officials and handles paperwork to ensure their payment
* Conducts in-service with coaches to ensure that all district policies are known and followed
* Resolves conflicts within the ranks of athletic department. (ex. Coaches, parents)
* Seeks ways to support and finance the athletic program, thru both school funds and fundraising
* Responsible for gate money to night deposit on night of event and then the accounting and depositing of gate receipts the next day
* Receives and evaluates equipment requests from the coaches, approves those necessary
* Sets, with approval of superintendent, the athletic budget for each sport
* Attends all home games and acts as the manager of the event
* Sends reminders of upcoming events to schools and officials
* Works with superintendent and principal to postpone contest due to weather or dangerous conditions
* Coordinates and supervises all public address, press box, scorer's table, gate keepers, and custodial staff for events
* Works with school athletic trainer to maintain copy of records, physicals, and insurance payment for each athlete
* Maintains permanent records for each sport, such as wins and losses, awards, lettermen, and inventory
* Determines, with help of head coach, scholastic eligibility of all students for teams during each semester, and certify those student athletes in AAA records
* Reviews, makes recommendations and forwards coaches' request to attend clinics and conferences
* Works with principals and cheer sponsor to schedule cheer tryouts
* Coordinates use of school athletic facilities
* Works with athletic trainer to ensure needs of athletes are met
* Plans, organizes, and supervises all athletic award programs with the approval of principal and superintendent
* Liaison between coaches and the booster clubs and attends all meetings
* Promotes publicity for all interscholastic events. Responsible for the making and distribution of football program
* Coordinates all repair and maintenance of facilities (gym floors, track, and football tractor)
* Manages athletic facilities and controls access by other groups
* Represents the school at league, conference and state meetings
* Schedules physical exam days
* Coordinates the Supplemental Instruction Program (SIP)
* Reviews the athletic policy annually
* Presents recommendations for changes of said policy to the superintendent
* Evaluates and seeks ways to improve the athletic program
* Attends construction and progress meetings during times that athletic buildings are going up
* Performs other duties that the superintendent of schools may direct
