DescriptionThe Head Women's Wrestling Coach will develop and administer all aspects of the inaugural Luther College women's wrestling team and program, including coaching, recruiting student-athletes, practice, and game organization, arranging team travel, and promoting academic success and retention. Responsible for building and maintaining a successful program and providing energetic leadership and inclusivity for students on the mat, in the classroom, and in the community.ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.
- Directs and provides the planning, organizing and coaching of the women's wrestling program.
- Establishes future meet/travel schedules with the Director of Athletics.
- Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters; consults with college administration and faculty.
- Responsible for the hiring of part-time coaches and student managers.
- Manages the operating budget for the women's wrestling program.
- Plans for the successful recruitment of potential football student-athletes.
- Follows Luther College and Luther College Athletics DEI plans and implements additional initiatives for diversity, equity and inclusion within the football program with recruiting and current roster and staff.
- Studies, evaluates and implements innovations in wrestling strategy and equipment.
- Works alongside the head men's wrestling coach to schedule practices, meets, and joint opportunities.
- Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the American Rivers Conference and NCAA Division III.
- Develops and implements retention strategies for current student-athletes within the athletic department and partner departments on campus.
- Develop and maintain very positive and professional customer service and relations within the department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Part-time coaches and student managers (student-work positions)
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
- Education: A Master's Degree is preferred or a Bachelor's Degree and training and work experience that equates to an advanced degree is required.
- Experience: Previous experience recruiting and coaching wrestling at the collegiate level is desired.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- May require explore to adverse environmental conditions such as noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and other adversities as the incumbent performs duties and responsibilities in both indoor and outdoor settings as well as occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and/or the ability to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects with a limited amount of force.
