General Description: The Headsaw Operator shall work to ensure actions reflect the company culture, work meets or exceeds company standards, values and working environment and actions reflect that as outlined by the Sawmill Manager and will support the execution of the safety mission at Kennebec Lumber Company. The Headsaw Operator is responsible for the proper and efficient sawing of logs, staying within sawing tolerances and meeting required log count per shift. Responsibilities:
- Load and position logs on the carriage as quickly and safely as possible. When sawing is complete, unload the remaining block as promptly as possible.
- Choose the position of the faces by rotating the log to minimize the effect of the defects.
- Efficiently operate log turner to position logs without damage.
- Saw for highest value (lumber, blocks, ties and timbers).
- Utilize Lewis control scanning system to maximize yield.
- Adjust the taper, if needed to maximize the value of the lumber being sawn.
- Place logs on the carriage to maximize the support from all of the knees.
- Utilize available tools tomonitor sawing variation and stay within tolerances.
- Basic understanding of NHLA hardwood lumber grade rules.
- Follow all change over and end of day procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
