Job Description:

Basic Function: Under the direction of a Principal and/or School Nurse, performs clerical duties involved in the preparation and maintenance of District health records and reports; administers first aid to ill or injured students at a school site; assists with health screening and testing. Representative Duties: 1. Prepares and maintains a variety of Health Services records and reports according to established guidelines and procedures; compiles statistical reports as required. 2. Administers first aid to ill or injured students; contacts appropriate authorities and parents as necessary; performs CPR according to established guidelines and procedures. 3. Assists in vision, hearing, scoliosis or dental screening as required; assists students with a variety of health questions as appropriate. 4. Maintains health records and files; distributes health literature, forms and health information as directed. 5. Drives personal vehicle to perform duties and transport children according to established guidelines as required. 6. Assists in maintaining inventory and orders first aid supplies; provides first aid supplies to students in accordance with established procedures. 7. Travels to school sites to provide basic health services as assigned. 8. Performs a variety of clerical duties, including filing, checking and recording information and answering phones. 9. Maintains confidentiality of student information and records. 10. Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities: 1. First aid, health and safety practices and procedures. 2. Basic medical and health-related terminology. 3. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. 4. Record keeping techniques. 5. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. 6. Telephone techniques and etiquette. 7. Perform clerical duties involved in the preparation and maintenance of District health records and reports. 8. Travel to schools sites to provide first aide and other health office assistance. 9. Learn and apply laws, rules, regulations involved in assigned health services activities. 10. Administer first aid to ill or injured students. 11. Understand and follow oral and written directions. 12. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 13. Work confidentially with discretion. 14. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 15. Drive personal vehicle to perform duties and transport students. Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school and one year of clerical experience involving record keeping and public contact. Licenses and Other Requirements: Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency. Valid California driver's license is required to operate personal vehicle and provide proof of insurance. NOTE: ATTACHMENTS (MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR APPLICATION AT THE TIME OF APPLYING). Drivers License (Proof of insurance upon being hired) 4. Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate Health Services office and school health office environment; subject to exposure to communicable diseases. Testing: After application screening, qualified applicants will be notified if a testing component is required for the position. Applicants will be notified of the time, date, and location of the testing. Testing and passage rates for the testing components will be established by the District. The District reserves the right to establish an eligibility list for persons to be interviewed.
