The health assistant is responsible for giving medications to children throughout the school day, taking care of injuries for children and staff, assisting with the physical and mental health of students all under the supervision of the district nurse. Must have good record keeping and organization skills, able to work independently, good communication skills dealing with team members including teachers, principals and parents. Most importantly must have compassion for children in a sometimes busy enviornment.

1. High school diploma
2. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriated and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: School Nurse
JOB GOAL: To provide a well-organized, smooth functioning health environment in which students can receive required medical attention.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform duties of the nurse's office under supervision of licensed nurse.
2. Prepare new health folders for nurse to review before filing.
3. Assist with immunization audit.
4. Perform clerical duties.
5. Copy forms and distribute for nurses as directed.
6. Call parents for illnesses and injuries.
7. Dispense medications and acetaminophen as required with proper consents.
8. Assist with medication training and yearly reviews.
9. Assist with various screenings and record information.
10. Keep office neat and clean.
11. Order supplies as necessary.
12. Complete and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications
13. Confer with nurse as needed to support health needs of students.
14. Support building secretaries as requested by administration.
Sterling is located in Logan County in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir.
