Job Description:

* Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

DESCRIPTION OF KEY FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Will smile; speak in a courteous and friendly manner with patients, visitors and staff members.

* Responsible for participating in quality improvement projects/activities and accountable for quality control in the Health Care Services department.

* Reports to the Registered Nurse for clinically related duties. Reports to the Clinic Administrator for administrative related duties

* Verifies test requisitions by comparing information in EHR; bringing discrepancies to the attention of the RN.

* Verifies patient by reading patient identification.

* Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.

* Performs all in-house CLIA waived testing

* Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.

* Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.

* Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring using assays kits by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.

* Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule; recording results in the quality-control log; identifying and reporting needed changes

* Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, nursing station, or reference health care services; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.

* Completes clinically related tasks as delegated by the RN/Providers.

* Follows all clinical protocols/guidelines and Universal Precautions.

* Supervises and orders Health Care Services supplies and inventory.

* Per Providers order and/or under standing orders with the supervision of the RN, MA performs clinical procedures within the California MA scope of practice.

* Works with the IT and Informatics department to update system codes.

* Oversees E-trailer updates with Health Care Services venders.

* Monitors communications with LabCorp and Quest Lab regarding missing information and coding

* Returns calls to patients and documents all communications in EHR; follows guidelines of CHSI patient communication protocol. Maintains HIPAA compliance

* Participates in training as directed/required by the Director of Nursing/RN to provide improved patient care such as learning evidence-based approaches to self-management support, proactively addressing the needs of patients/families in the community, maintains cultural competency, and clear and courteous communication.

* Maintains a safe, clean, and stocked environment at all times. Notify RN of any area or equipment that needs repair.

* Handles emergencies appropriately and seek qualified help when required per CHSI policy and protocols.

* Chaperones the patient with the Provider as required by policy.

* Completes all required charting. Reviews Providers orders and ensures orders followed/completed.

* Obtains patients' signatures on all forms where required.

* Surveils outstanding/unreported health care services values. Obtains values and reports abnormal to Provider/Nurse Team

* Reviews Rosetta Tank files and updates patients' records when required

* Scans patients' paperwork in EHR as required.

* Completes daily calibration logs as required by the RN.

* Translates for patients and Providers as necessary.

* Serves and protects CHSI by adhering to professional standards, policies, procedures, federal, state, local requirements and OSHA standards.

* Enhances the Health Care Services department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

* Performs all other duties as directed either formally or informally, verbally or in writing.
