Summary:
Goldbelt Professional Services, LLC (GPS) is seeking an experienced Health Communications Specialist to support health communication, education, and risk communication activities. The CDC is the nation's premier health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agency. The ideal candidate will develop, implement, and evaluate health communication and education strategies aimed at addressing vaccine-preventable and respiratory diseases, utilizing best practices in social marketing and plain language communication.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
* Health Communication and Risk Messaging
* Prepare responses for news media and public inquiries, ensuring inclusion of relevant stakeholders and alignment with CDC messaging standards.
* Write, clear, and coordinate risk communication messages for respiratory disease outbreaks, including materials for web, social media, and presentations.
* Create communication products tailored for diverse audiences and channels using plain language and clear communication principles.
* Develop creative briefs for new materials and coordinate stakeholder feedback throughout the development process.
* Program Development and Evaluation
* Design and implement innovative health education strategies for vaccine-preventable diseases, targeting healthcare providers, families, and public audiences.
* Conduct needs assessments to identify educational priorities and develop recommendations to inform program strategies.
* Compile and analyze data (e.g., web metrics, media coverage, public inquiries) to evaluate communication activities, presenting findings with actionable recommendations.
* Educational Material Development
* Revise and create curricula, fact sheets, and audiovisual materials utilizing adult learning principles for national dissemination.
* Develop training and educational materials for medical and allied health professionals, incorporating the latest public health information and technologies.
* Monitor changes in the field of vaccine-preventable diseases to update and enhance training content.
* Stakeholder Engagement and Technical Assistance
* Provide consultation and technical assistance to CDC staff and grantees on health education and communication strategies.
* Coordinate training activities and serve as a liaison between CDC program managers and CSS on immunization education initiatives.
* Maintain and manage communication and education materials, such as vaccine storage labels and prepared responses, ensuring accuracy and timely updates.
* Leadership and Collaboration
* Collaborate with CDC staff, grantees, and external partners to ensure the successful implementation of education and communication strategies.
* Participate in and moderate webinars, technical assistance sessions, and stakeholder meetings to advance program goals.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
* Advanced understanding of health communication theories, social marketing principles, and public health education best practices.
* Expertise in technical writing and editing, particularly for scientific and health-related publications.
* Proficiency in using metrics and analytics tools to evaluate communication effectiveness.
* Strong project management and organizational skills with experience coordinating across teams and meeting tight deadlines.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in public health, communications, health education, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in health communication, public health education, or a related discipline.
* Proven ability to write, edit, and review scientific and health communication materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in public health, communications, or a related field.
* Certifications such as CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) or training in plain language and clear communication.
* Experience with CDC communication processes, including clearance systems.
The salary range for this position is $74,050 to $84,050 annually.
