- Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields of study: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Development, Human Services, Public and Community Health, Community Development and Nursing.
- Experience working with adolescent youth population is necessary (minimum 2 years paid experience or the equivalent volunteer experience under the supervision of a clinician or professor will be acceptable).
- Experience delivering evidence-based interventions is preferred.
- Strong writing and public speaking skills is essential.
- Follow-up and computer experience is required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct high-quality training and service provision to adolescent youth.
- Using an evidence-based model, engage adolescent youth population in screening and assessing the educational needs particular to this age group.
- Perform community outreach and activities which include:
- Recruitment of participants for all relevant components of the program.
- Promoting program services to the community and adolescent youth.
- Recruiting and engaging parents, guardians, and caregivers of children and adolescents enrolled in components of the program.
Program Specific Responsibilities
- Delivering judgement free training classes to adolescent youth using the evidence-based pregnancy prevention model.
- Identifying and screening candidates for Component 2 (Volunteer Mentoring) of the SRAE program
- Delivering judgement-free workshops to parents, guardians, and caregivers of children enrolled in the SRAE program.
- Provide assistance and/ or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services or other support services as identified.
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Skills/Abilities
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to represent the agency at functions and meetings
- Ability to initiate and develop communication in the community; knowledge of the Bronx and its communities
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather
