Overview

Copley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is in search of a Part-Time Health Information Specialist to join our team! The Health Information Specialist professionals are members of the Health Information Management Department. Health Information Specialists organize medical information and patient files. Under general direction of the manager, the Specialist/analyst accesses, inputs, and retrieves information, and solves complex problems using various computer systems. Maintains processing of records in an orderly, accessible and accurate manner to meet time frames. Performs quality monitoring of patient information. Strong knowledge and compliance of HIPAA regulations, CMS, State and Federal regulations, policies governing the provision of healthcare. This is a Part-Time position (FT options available). Copley Hospital has a variety of shifts available across Full-Time, Part-Time, and Temporary needs. Please consider applying to discuss how your availability may align.

Responsibilities

* Meets Copley Hospital standards related to: telephone etiquette, customer service, inter/intra departmental relations, confidentiality, corporate compliance, and quality.

* health information technicians must be able to communicate effectively with medical staff and coworkers

* Assembles and analyzes charts (Inpatient, outpatient, clinic ACU) to confirm documentation requirements compliant with policies and regulations. Ensure the information maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility and security in both paper files and electronic systems.

* Maintains record availability by processing of medical records into the department using the electronic chart locator.

* Keep healthcare providers informed via reports weekly (and sooner when necessary). Flags paper charts for signatures and enters electronically documentation needed for completion of medical record. Notifies medical staff if any dictation needed.

* Assist in retrieval of medical records for chart audits, peer review, completion of medical records, as needed for department units and health care providers. Chart is entered electronically via the Evident location system.

* Delivers medical records to assigned areas of the hospital by following established routing procedures and chart locator.

* Produces reports and confirms schedule for scanning/photocopying by the external copy release of information service. Prepares medical records for vendor when scheduled on site. Reports any issues with process to the company supervisor. Stays current with changes in procedures and regulations.

* Acts as a resource for the retention and destruction schedules for medical records on an annual basis.

* Refers Subpoenas and Risk Management issues to Quality Department Director.

* Faxes medical information in response to emergency requests.

* Manages self and resources effectively. Accepts changes in assignment, requests assistance appropriately.

* Attendance and punctuality expectations met. Attends meetings and retrieves information if absent. Participates in continuing education as needed to gain additional skills as may be required to perform job functions.

Qualifications

Education:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Post high school education is desirable, e.g., associates degree in business, secretarial science, etc.

Skills:

* Comfortable with multitasking. Excellent telephone skills etiquette. Organized. Good follow-up abilities.

* Medical Terminology Course desired.

* Data entry, medical office skills.

* Keyboarding and computer skills.

* Professional telephone manners.

* Detail oriented with accuracy for reading numbers.
