Position Type: Student Support ServicesDate Posted: 10/28/2024Location: North Elementary SchoolDate Available: ASAPClosing Date: Until FilledDistrict: Saint Peter Public SchoolsTITLE: North Elementary School Health Assistant Job Description and Employment Information REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Licensed School Nurse Qualifications First Aid and CPR certified Able to demonstrate clerical proficiency including computer skills Paraprofessional training: CPR update and first aid update Medication training and updates as neededEducation and Experience High School Diploma or its equivalent Experience in health related field preferredKnowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to function with knowledge and acceptance of the limits of the position and demonstrate sound judgement. Interest in working with children. Ability to recognize limitations and willingness to accept and utilize nursing supervision and direction. Ability to maintain and protect the confidentiality of students, staff and families. Ability to maintain sound working relationships with school personnel and the community. Job Goal The school health assistant supplements the school health program as determined by the licensed school nurse. The scope of responsibilities will vary according to the individual school health program needs. Delegation of health related functions shall be under the supervision of the licensed school nurse.Performance Responsibilities: Understand and practice appropriate confidentiality. Provide emergency first aid, per standard policy and procedures. Be in close contact with licensed school nurse regarding emergencies, injuries or any student or staff health concerns. Initiate parent contacts to arrange transportation for ill students. Be in close contact with Licensed School Nurse regarding injuries and illness that require emergency transportation.. Administer medication as delegated by and under the direct supervision of the licensed school nurse. Maintain accurate documentation of medication administration. Work with students, parents, and school staff as needed. Maintain accurate health record of each student who comes to the Health Service. Assist in the set-up and coordination of the vision and hearing screenings. Clean and stock the health room on a scheduled basis. Perform other duties as assigned. Performance Evaluation: The appraisal of the performance of this position shall involve the building principal and the licensed school nurse.Physical Effort Ability to perform the following actions: Sitting, using hands dexterously, talking, hearing, reaching, bending, crouching.Working Conditions Must be willing and able to work in the following conditions: one to one, small group and classroom settings, at times busy, fast-paced, noisy and with occasional interruptions.Hours of Service 6.75 hours/student contact day 2024-25 School Year onlyThe information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
