Job DescriptionJob Summary: The Health Promotion Specialist works under the direction and supervision of the Program Director in the Center for Health Promotion and collaborates with other staff, faculty, administrators, and students at Ithaca College to plan, implement, and evaluate health promotion and substance abuse prevention strategies targeted to the IC student population. Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) interventions and other health-related consultations for individual students and groups, most of whom are judicially referred via student conduct.
  • Develop health and wellness curriculum materials for a variety of wellness topics including sleep hygiene, stress management, time management, self-care, alcohol, cannabis and other substance safety, sexual health, healthy relationships and more.
  • Provide health-related presentations, workshops, training, and staff development programs.
  • Serve as the Residence Life Associate for the Health & Wellness Learning Community in collaboration with Residential Life.
  • Develop effective health promotion/substance use prevention communications for the college community, including web page content, printed materials, and social media messaging.
  • Serve on campus wellness committees and working groups including the Alcohol and Other Drugs Team.
  • Design and apply quantitative and qualitative research through the use of surveys, focus groups, and interpretation of existing data to support program development and evaluation efforts.
  • Develop and foster collaborative partnerships with student affairs and academic departments and community agencies as appropriate, which includes providing training and consultation, participating in committees, and communicating via phone, email, and in-person meetings.
  • Assist in the supervision of student workers/volunteers/interns who are involved in the Center's health promotion efforts.
  • Perform tasks related to the administrative coordination of the Center for Health Promotion such as record-keeping, preparing reports and other documents, ordering supplies, and maintaining an orderly physical space in the Center.
  • Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in public health, health promotion, social work, counseling, or closely related field. A minimum of two years of experience in college or community health promotion; experience in substance abuse education and/or counseling. Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills; ability to embrace and engage with harm reduction principles as related to alcohol, cannabis and other substance use, sexual activity, and other risk behaviors present in the college population; ability to work a flexible schedule with occasional evening or weekend hours are required. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in public health, social work or related field preferred, CHES credential preferred.
