Position Type: Support Staff/Health Room/Nurse`s AideDate Posted: 8/30/2024Location: St. Joan of Arc SchoolJob Description HEALTH ROOM AIDE Part-Time School: St. Joan of Arc School City & State: Hummelstown, PA Payroll Grade: 11 FLSA Status: NON -EXEMPT Nature of Position: To provide assistance to the school nurse in maintaining health records and caring for sick or injured students during school hours or when the nurse is not in the building. REPORTS TO: Day-to-day supervision by Nurse PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works under the direct supervision of the nurse. 2. Gives care to students who are ill and injured and administers first aid in accordance with first aid procedures. This includes notification of parents/guardians and the nurse when indicated. Maintains daily log of all students seen for health-related problems. 3. Performs designated clerical duties associated with maintaining cumulative student health records. This may include recording information from physical examination forms, screening results, immunization dates, information from previous schools, and computer data entry. 4. Assist students in securing required immunizations and physical examinations by mailing appropriate notices to parents/guardians as directed by the nurse. 5. Perform other duties as designated by the nurse such as securing the return of borrowed health room supplies (clothing, elastic bandages, etc.), maintaining first aid kits and other supplies, changing thermometer solution, recording changes on class lists, assisting in screening students, making ice bags, etc. 6. Inform the principal, counselor, and nurse of suspected cases of child abuse, child neglect, drug abuse, or other serious matters which require immediate attention. 7. Cooperate with school secretary in matters of student attendance. 8. Implement policy on exclusion and re-admission of students with contagious disease as directed by the nurse. 9. Dispense medications to students in accordance with school policy. 10. Participate in training and workshops as appropriate. 11. Perform additional duties as required for short periods of time due to unusual circumstances. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma 2. Computer skills 3. Clerical skills 4. Ability to work with children and adults 5. Such alternatives as the board may find appropriate and acceptable. 6. At least 21 years of age or older EVALUATION: Performance evaluation of this job will be based on an annual review by the supervising nurse and the building principal in accordance with board policy.
