We respect all with humility and patience.Position Summary:The Health, Safety and Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the program's implementation of comprehensive health and safety services and supporting in the execution of the program's nutrition services. This includes regular collaboration with program staff, families, community health and safety services and monitoring of health, safety and nutrition services.Essential Functions:The duties identified below are the essential functions of the position. Ensure timely completion of student hearing and vision screenings, as well as communication of results with familiesEnsure compliance with completion and documentation of children's medical and dental examinations and recordsCoordinate internal and external health referral processesEnsure adequate program preparation for children with identified health needsCollaborate with families and program staff to develop Individual Health Plans (IHP) when appropriateCollaborate with community to enhance program servicesMonitor accident reports, facility safety, emergency preparedness, and preventative health practicesMonitor student nutrition through growth assessmentsMonitor nutritional services according to CACFP requirementsEnsure adequate training and monitoring of Family Style Dining practicesComplete monthly reports, documentation, and food procurementEnsure compliance with Bauer Policies, State Licensing, and Head Start Program Performance Standards, and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).Attend monthly staff meetings, monthly Professional Development Days, quarterly All-Agency meetings, and annual Pre-Service QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this position successfully, an individual must demonstrate regular, predictable attendance and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skill required. The individual must be able to successfully pass background checks.Education/Certification/Licensure: Associate's degree in health services, nursing, nutrition or other related field, preferredPrevious Head Start experience, preferredValid driver's license, is required.Serve Safe Managers Certification (not required upon hire but to be acquired within 6 months of hire) Experience Required: 2-3 years previous experience Knowledge and Skills Required: Commitment to serving children and families in poverty with the highest quality servicesWillingness to learn and apply new knowledgeFamiliarity with medical terminology and Early Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT)Familiarity with immunization standards and healthcare best practices for childrenAttention to detailStrong communication skills, both written and verbalStrong computer skillsOrganization and time managementBasic math skills Knowledge and Skills Preferred: Understanding of food preparation and safety protocol following Serv SafeUnderstanding of nutritional guidelines to promote healthy living.Understanding of Child and Adult Food Care Program Physical Requirements:To accomplish the essential functions of the position, one must be physically able to operate or work with computers, calculators, reference books, computer software applications, phones, and other standard office equipment. The physical activities of the position include talking, reaching, grasping, light lifting, bending, squatting, and other repetitive motions. Medium Lifting Working Conditions: Work is performed mainly in a clean and pleasant classroom and kitchen environment with rare exposure to environmental factors.Minimal safety hazards with general office workingTravel up to 75%.
