Job Description:

We are hiring a Health, Safety, and Environment Coordinator for MPC (Mearthane Products Corporation) based in Cranston, Rhode Island. Please read below for more information:

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator role will be responsible for providing full-time EHS support to all Mearthane Product locations to ensure compliance with applicable policy and regulatory requirements. The individual in this position will support the development and coordination of training programs to establish and promote the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, and healthy workplace.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow-up assessments.
  • Facilitate, conduct, and advise on training initiatives, including the development of effective training materials.
  • Take charge of investigating all actual/potential incidents and overseeing the root cause and corrective action processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant local EHS legal and regulatory requirements, as well as any company-specific standards that surpass regulatory mandates.
  • Serve as the technical expert and champion of our corporate EHS policies and processes, supporting compliance activities, tracking and reporting EHS performance metrics.
  • Provide support for medical and industrial hygiene programs, collaborating closely with Human Resources and Operations teams on pre-employment fitness for duty and return-to-work evaluations.
  • Manage the site's environmental program, including permits, waste management as per the Environmental Aspects and Impacts register, SPCC/Emergency response, regulatory reports, inspections, and more.
  • Work closely with internal and external resources to proactively identify and address loss prevention issues, ensuring the implementation of recommendations from site assessments.
  • Supervise EHS consultants and contractors hired for specialized services such as industrial hygiene testing, fit testing, ventilation systems design/testing, sample collection, and other EHS-related activities.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
  • Owner of the Learning Management and Training Process for MPC locations.
  • Supporting the development of OHS policies and programs.
  • Advising and instructing on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
  • Conducting risk assessment and enforcing preventative measures.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational / Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, or other EHS-related field preferred; other four-year degrees will be considered
  • Prior experience within a company's health and safety program
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation (e.g., OSHA/EPA) and procedures
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports and policies
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time

Travel Requirements

  • Main work location Cranston, Rhode Island, must have reliable transportation to travel to other sites and a good driving record
  • Travel to other MPC sites, 10% of time
