Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position required to travel approximately 85% of the time.
This Career Service position provides health services in the Florida Department of Health in Lake County - School Health (SH) Program and includes working in outlying School-Based Immunization and Health Screening Clinics under the supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist to appraise, protect, and promote the health status of the Lake County School students. The incumbent will serve as the Private/Charter School coordinator. This position work hours will coincide with the Lake County School Board student calendar and will be scheduled to work the DOH-Lake clinics during the major periods when school is scheduled to be closed i.e. Winter Break, Spring Break and approximately five weeks during the summer months. Incumbent may be asked to work in the School Health program during these periods depending on the needs of the School Health Program or per discretion of supervisor.
Assists in outlying School Health's immunization and health screening (hearing, vision, scoliosis height, and weight) clinics in the school setting. Pulls and prepares health records prior to immunization clinics. Delivers equipment (that might weigh 30 lbs.) and supplies to outlying assigned schools and sets up area for clinics. Explains test procedures. Performs health screenings, records screening results and document health screening & follow up results in the student's health folder at the appropriate time. Assist in keeping immunization records and maintaining inventory of medical supplies necessary for outlying school-based immunization clinics. Assist nurse or medical provider in other screenings or procedures as required.
Perform other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bilingual Preferred, Data entry, computers skills, Skyward, SHIP, Excel, word, outlook, knowledge of basic medical terminology, skills in using medical instrument or testing equipment, taking vital signs, ability to keep accurate records. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. and other class specifications.
Qualifications:
+ Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
+ Have a current valid driver's license or State ID. If out of state a Florida driver's license or State ID will be required within 30 days of hire.
Preferred -
+ Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or comparable certification
+ Experience working with children in a school setting
+ Experience conducting hearing and vision screenings
+ Experience working in a School-Based Immunization and reviewing health records
+ Experience working with client medical or health records in a healthcare setting
+ Experience conducting health screenings to include interviewing clients, measuring vital signs, weight and height, and recording information
+ Experience updating and recording results in a medical or health records chart i.e. screenings, immunizations etc.
+ Experience working with Skyward or the School Health Information Program (SHIP), or similar (other) electronic medical/data systems
+ Certified in CPR and First Aid
+ Bilingual (Spanish and English)
