Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Health Support Technician position assigned to the Lantana/Lake Worth Health Center. This position provides services primarily in Maternity, GYN and Family Planning, including but not limited to support all clinics as needed. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions. Work is performed under the supervision of a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. This position makes a reasonable effort to adhere to established safety procedures and practices in the work area. This is a bilingual position with the incumbent being fluent in English and Creole.

This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Confidential information clinical data sets: Clinical Information, Epidemiology. This position may view, update and release patient information using the Health Management System (HMS) data system.

Perform Vital Signs for patients, document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and in appropriate paper charts. Reports abnormal values to the Supervisor or Provider immediately. Assist provider during patient examination including, but not limited to minor surgical procedures. Assist the providers and nurses in the total care of patients. Properly prepares, packages, and sends specimens to the laboratory. Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by provider and label specimen appropriately, sanitize exam table, and prepare room for next patient. Prepares, cleans, and restocks examination rooms to ensure they are properly stocked to start clinic each day. Assist with health education of clients. Responsible for the specialty reports to be placed in patient medical records, retrieve same day lab reports, ensure prior results are in the medical records for the providers to review. Responsible for keeping appropriate patient check-in clinic logs, daily patient census and services. Notify administration in a timely manner about clinic flow.

Maintain adequate supplies, and equipment in examination rooms. Perform inventory and maintains inventory of supplies. Verify invoices as supplies are delivered, submit delivery receipt to Administration Office. Responsible for cleaning instruments, including but not limited to, autoclaves gynecological instruments. Follow protocol for cleaning and spore testing the autoclave according to current guidelines. Ensures appropriate specimen containers are available according to client's insurance and lab performing tests.

Schedule, rescheduling of canceled appointments as needed into the HMS system, and document follow-up in the medical records. Assists the Nursing staff in, both clinic and referrals, track broken appointments and tracking patients requiring follow-up in accordance to CHD Guidelines.

Assist in orientating and training of new employees. Participates in staff meetings, planning sessions and Quality Improvement Programs. Participates in mandatory Title X updates and other required in-service programs.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Knowledge of basic medical and pharmaceutical terminology.

+ Knowledge of basic computer software and Electronic Health Records.

+ Knowledge of instrument decontamination and sterilization.

+ Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.

+ Skill in taking blood pressure readings.

+ Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history.

+ Ability to follow instructions.

+ Ability to keep accurate records.

+ Ability to communicate effectively.

+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

+ This position may travel to another Health Center to provide services at the discretion of Administration.
