This position works independently and with a team to provide care to clients within the clinic setting. The position is under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor. Clinic Duties:
- Maintains clinic exam rooms with all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Prepares patients for examination or treatment by the medical provider.
- Collects and records vital signs, height, weight, and oxygen saturation in the client's electronic health record.
- Obtains patient's basic health history and reason for visit.
- Documents appropriate information in the electronic health record.
- Performs venipuncture using proper phlebotomy technique, collects urine specimens and swabs for Sexually Transmitted Infections testing.
- Performs pregnancy testing and records the appropriate result in the electronic health record.
- Assists the provider during the physical examination of patient as needed and collection of specimens.
- Assists the nurse with pediatric patients during immunizations and blood sampling.
- Cleans and disinfects clinic exam rooms according to infection control and biohazardous waste policy.
- Prepares client packages of educational material and/or condoms for distribution in clinic.
- Manages the biohazardous bins and sharps containers per proper protocol and policy.
- Enters lab orders and packages urine and blood specimens for transport, ensures lab specimens are shipped per lab requirements.
- Maintains Lab Quality Control Sheets.
Performs inventory of all clinic supplies and notifies supervisor of inventory needs. Orders clinic supplies and ensures clinic exam rooms are fully stocked. Under the direction of the RN Supervisor, assists with medication and vaccine inventory and reconciliation. Ensures the integrity/confidentiality of all data sets in the program; complies with the information security protocols and procedures (DOHP 50-10); security and privacy of client information is maintained; disclosure of confidential information is released only after proper authorization has been obtained; and information that is exempt from public record disclosure is maintained in a confidential manner. Perform other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Knowledge of basic computer software
- Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment
- Skill in talking blood pressure readings
- Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and process lab specimens using universal precautions
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
