This is entry-level work performing routine, healthcare support tasks under direct supervision. The job requires skill and basic job knowledge to perform work within established practices and procedures. Work planning is limited with activities approved by supervisor. The Health Support Technician is responsible for determining eligibility, obtaining health data and issuing electronic benefits to clients in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). He/she provides services in the WIC Program in accordance with the policies of the state WIC Program and regulations as stated in DHM 150-24. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Nutritionist in the assigned area.

The following services are provided on a rotating basis as assigned:
Interview clients to gather demographic information, determine income eligibility and enter information into the FL-WISE system. Provide and review with clients required program handout materials. Responsible for obtaining WIC client's height, weight and hemoglobin for certification and recertification as needed. Comply with bio-hazardous waste policy. Keep current with any laboratory policy changes and communicates information with supervisor for clarity. Update FL[1]Wise records to reflect the proper documentation and collection of income, residency, proof of identity and other certification data. Assess the immunization status of WIC program infants and children. Document findings in FLWiSE and refer as appropriate. Provide nutrition education in a group setting to clients to promote good eating habits, physical development, and good health. Nutrition education is documented in FL-WISE in accordance with department policy.
Triage clients to determine the client service needs. Triages include but not limited to: greet clients, introduce her/himself, verify appointment type, browse clients for services required and route the client for the correct service needed. Provide and instruct clients to complete Voter's Registration forms.
Issue electronic benefits according to WIC regulations. Inform clients of their need for re-certification procedures when required according to the program guidelines. Schedule client appointments. Maintain accurate inventories of EBT cards when assigned. Respond to vendor manager comments as noted in the notes section of FLWiSE and complete required forms. Report all participant and vendor complaints concerning program abuse as assigned and conduct follow-up activities.
Provide every pregnant and postpartum woman with breastfeeding information as appropriate. Call prenatal clients to reschedule missed certification appointments. Provide clients who need medical and/or social services with information about the appropriate agencies. Inventory and order supplies from the designated employee at the NCDP administration office. Conduct outreach visits to other appropriate agencies, offices, and organizations to describe the benefits of the WIC Program, eligibility requirements and service locations.
Attend mandatory and scheduled trainings. Accurate and timely submission of Employee Activity Record (EARs), time records, travel logs, monthly report of activities, referrals, and other reports are submitted to the NCDP Administrative Office. Answer telephones. Manages records as appropriate. Performs travel in relation to above duties and for professional development. Participate in the FDOH in Duval County - Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention Disaster Plan as required.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
* A valid unrestricted Florida Driver's license and reliable transportation are required
* A high school diploma or GED?
* At least 1 year of experience interacting with clients and/or customer service
