Job DescriptionThe Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on the nursing units; coordinating work within the unit as well as with other units and departments; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries and requests from staff personnel, etc.Clerical Duties
- Answer the telephone in a professional manner; direct calls to appropriate individuals and/or take messages
- Keep all necessary lists and schedules
- Maintain office supplies
- Fax and photocopy as needed
Nursing Unit Duties
- Complete physician orders
- Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges
- Completing orders for the lab, radiology, etc
- Preparing documents for a transferred patient
- Coordinate specific work tasks with other personnel within the unit as well as within other units in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as requested
- Participates in departmental or organizational meetings and trainings
- Demonstrates ability to use equipment relevant to the position
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities
- Education, Experience & Skills Required
- High School Graduate with at least 2 years of clerical experience in a medical setting
- Successful graduate of an approved Medical Secretarial Program preferred
