JOB DESCRIPTION: Assists in school clinic by performing delegated health related tasks assigned and supervised by registered nurse. Provides basic first aid and specifically trained tasks that promote the health and wellbeing of student and staff members in assigned building. Perform various clerical duties in support of health related activities and assist students with activities of daily living. QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Certified medical assistant, nurse assistant, or EMT preferred. The employee must be able to successfully complete the drug screening requirements. Have strong office, computer, oral & written communications skills. Must complete required CPR certification class upon hire and complete any training provided by FWCS Health and Wellness Services Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assist Registered Nurse in assuring student's acute and chronic health care needs are met at school. This includes medication administration, vital sign assessments, and other medical care all under the direct supervision of a nurse. 2. Help to maintain a safe school environment by following best practices for public health matters set forth by local and state Health Departments and the Center for Disease Control. 3. Assist students with performing activities of daily living as assigned or directed by the nurse. 4. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of the school's health clinic such as preparing, typing, duplicating, and filing health materials. Assist nurse in organizing and preparing school health programs to insure programs run smoothly. 5. Maintain accurate and complete documentation of student and staff encounters including medication administration, clinic visits, accident reporting, and other district documentation. 6. Assist the nurse in implementing mandated health screenings and help nurse provide follow up services to families such as the handling of letters and paperwork. 7. Follow health and safety practices and procedures; assist with maintenance of health clinic and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly and clean manner. 8. Attend Health & Wellness Services departmental meetings and complete required professional learning as assigned by the Health & Wellness Director. 9. All job duties performed will be under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. 10.Perform related duties as assigned by the Director to meet the particular needs of the building/unit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking at will. The incumbent will be required to lift, carry and/or push students weighing more than 50 pounds in wheelchairs as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
