Job PurposeThe Heavy Equipment Field Technician is responsible for the repair of constructionmachines, component assemblies, and parts in the shop and field, including diagnosing,parts ordering, technical report writing, warranty reporting, maintaining care of companyassets, and proper communication with others. This position reports to and is undergeneral supervision of the Shop Foreman.Essential Functions and Responsibilities• Repair equipment and components, including.• Development of a repair plan and sequence• Determining necessary parts, materials, tooling, etc.• Performing repairs properly and safely, with proper quality assurance testing ofrepair component or system and machine• Maintain and complete all necessary reports legibly and in a timely fashion forparts ordering, special tooling usage, daily service reports, and work orderclosure.• Communicate progress of repair with direct supervisor as required.• Retrieve & return parts and/or materials through Company's parts orderingsystem.• Retrieve & return of special tools through Company's Tool Room. Maintain propercare and use of special tools including major shop equipment, such as but notlimited to, air compressor, cleaning tanks, overhead and jib cranes, etc.• Use Company vehicle, service truck, and fuel cards properly including notifyingsupervisor immediately of any issues with the vehicle.• Maintain work area and/or service vehicle in a safe and clean manner.• Maintain tools & tool carrier in a safe, productive and updated manner.• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.• Other duties and projects as assigned.Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements• Operation and maintenance requirements of heavy-duty construction equipment• Hazards and Safety precautions of trade• The care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavyequipment mechanical maintenance and repair work.• The use of servicing equipment such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack, or emissionanalyzer• Ability to diagnose defects in heavy equipment.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Possess strong and effective customer service skills.• Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity.• Display excellent judgement at all time.Education and Experience• High School Diploma or equivalent• Associate degree in Diesel or Equipment Technology or four (4) Years ofapprenticeship experience preferred.• Three to five years of related experiencePhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee must be alert and is regularlyrequired to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use handsto finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionallyrequired to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee mustoccasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds long distances (more than 20 feet).Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This positionrequires the use and operation of a vehicle. Reasonable accommodation may be madeto enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.Working Conditions and Additional RequirementsThis position routinely requires use of personal or company vehicles on companybusiness. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess avalid drivers license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
