The City of Camden's water supply, serviced by American Water Contract Services Group, comes from groundwater that is treated at two facilities prior to delivery to the distribution system. The treatment facilities, Morris-Delair Water Treatment Plant located in Pennsauken and Parkside Water Treatment Plant located in Camden, collectively treat more than 21 million gallons per day. The two water treatment plants provide safe, clean, and reliable water to approximately 46,000 residents in the Camden community. We are looking for an Amazing Heavy Equipment Operator 1 to join our team - Apply now for immediate consideration! Primary Role Under the direction of supervisor inspects, operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs to the heavier and more complex construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and specialized sewer (sanitary and stormwater) cleaning vehicles in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life following company, local, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures Key Accountabilities
- Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, snowplow, front-end loader, hydraulic excavators, skid steers, jetter/inductor trucks, and vacuum trucks.
- Operates portable sewer maintenance equipment, such as trailer/skid mounted sewer rodders and jetters.
- Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on said heavy equipment.
- Maintain a variety of records related to equipment inspections, maintenance activity, etc., necessary for regulatory compliance.
- Cleans and services said heavy equipment as scheduled per the respective heavy equipment manufacturer's Operation and Maintenance Manuals.
- Advise supervision of any requirement for non-routine maintenance or major repairs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Follows Company Environmental, Health and Safety Policies, and reports unsafe conditions to supervision immediately Knowledge/Skills
- Able to operate motorized heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Able to perform routine maintenance and servicing of the heavy equipment, including cleaning, greasing, making minor adjustments and minor repairs per the respective heavy equipment manufacturer's Operation and Maintenance Manuals.
- Able to prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders, surveys and routine reports as directed.
- Able to communicate effectively will all levels of the organization.
- Able to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to this position.
- Able to plan, schedule, prioritize, and coordinate work within assigned work area.
- Ability to respond to emergencies.
- Able to use of motorized vehicles and equipment such as forklifts, heavy trucks, tamper, portable generators, portable pumps, ditch witch, etc. as required.
- Able to use of power tools such as saws, compressors, sanders, grinders, etc. as required.
- Able to use of common hand tools.
- Able to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and the general public.
- Able to work in a team environment
- Knowledge of techniques, equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in operations, maintenance, construction, and mechanical repair of water/wastewater facilities and appurtenances.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations. Experience/Education
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- 2 - 5 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy construction and maintenance equipment; experience in water industry or 3 - 5 years' experience in similar industry preferred Travel Requirements
- Local travel to various worksites only Certifications & Licenses
- Must possess a valid state (of residence) driver's license.
- Must possess a valid CDL license and Health Card.
- Possessing a NJDEP C1 or W1 Operator Certification is preferred. Work Environment
- Must be physically able to work indoor or outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.
- Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing approved personal protective equipment, as some required work may have potential for exposure to harmful contaminants, environments, noise, etc.
- Must be physically able of lifting and/or carrying 80 lbs. or more on a frequent basis.
- Must be physically able of walking up and down stairs and long distances.
- Must be physically able of carrying, climbing, and working from ladders.
- Must be physically able to work in confined space environments.
- Must be physically able to wear a respirator or SCBA as required.
- Must be physically able to remain alert and attentive to job requirements and co-workers. Specific Conditions

- Maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance at all times while in uniform or during working hours.
