Job DescriptionGeneral Summary: Operates and maintains equipment used for road construction and maintenance; and assists in the construction and repair of county roads, culverts, ditches, and bridges.Essential Duties: Operates various types of equipment for county road maintenance and construction projects, including motor grader, backhoe, rubber tire loader, steel roller, rubber roller, tractor and shredder, bulldozer, chip spreader, dump truck and water truck. Maintains equipment, including checking oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments; Patches, tamps, packs, and levels hot mix, dirt, or other materials during road repair; Smooths road surfaces; Clears ditches and culverts; Installs and repairs culverts; Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts; Loads heavy equipment, standard hand tools, and road maintenance materials onto haul truck; Drives trucks to haul materials to and from work sites; Surveys roads for potential hazards; May dispose of animal carcasses; May direct traffic at work sites as needed; and Secures appropriate hazardous warning signs.
