Salary: $14.25 HourlyLocation : AmericusJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202300046Department: Public WorksDivision: StreetsOpening Date: 07/22/2024Description The City of Americus is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator: Street Department. The beginning salary for this position is $29,636 annually ($14.25/ hour). Examples of DutiesDrives and operates a variety of trucks and heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, bucket trucks, dump trucks, and sewer cleaner; equipment operations are performed for the purpose of maintaining and repairing City streets, curbs, sidewalks, right of way, and sewers; assigned duties include cleaning catch basins, drainage ditches, and right of way debris; breaking up pavement; patching potholes; pouring asphalt; and painting curbs; performs landscaping duties such as cutting down trees using a bucket truck.Transports materials, equipment, and supplies to and from work sites. Conducts pre-trip inspections; fuels trucks; loads and secures materials on trucks; delivers and spreads materials; and conducts post-trip inspections. Hauls gravel and other materials, and removes debris. Makes, maintains, and repairs traffic signs; and changes light bulbs on streetlights.Uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment to perform assigned duties, including compressors, tampers, chainsaws, jackhammers, rakes, shovels, etc.Flags traffic around the work site and ensure the work zone is clearly marked with cones and/or signs.Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools, equipment, and vehicles.Receives, prepares, and processes documentation necessary to the functions of this position: work orders, vehicle maintenance reports, time cards, work completed forms, etc. Typical Qualifications Requirements include High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent GED; supplemented by one year experience operating and driving heavy construction equipment in support of maintenance projects; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.
