DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:The primary role and responsibilities for this position is to handle railroad material with various heavy equipment operation. This position may also assist in manual work to assist other crews. Adherence to individual Railroad and FRA safety standards and company policies. Preventative maintenance on all equipment.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

DAILY OVERSIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively operate heavy equipment required to meet railroad construction project requirements.
- Adhere to all safety policies/procedures, wear appropriate PPE, and complete all necessary training required. Comply with Company safety rules & regulations as well as have a working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations; FRA safety regulations and understanding of technical developments effecting workplace safety.
- Great Work Ethic - Ability to learn, willing to take direction and receive feedback.
- Must be able to take direction from immediate supervisor and implement plans accordingly.
- Self-motivator with the ability to work without constant supervision however know when to ask questions and is dependable and always on time.
- Perform preventative & general maintenance to all equipment.
- Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Class C driver's license.
- Must have a minimum of one year of CDL drivers' experience.
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience using a variety of equipment with experience with the following: (1) Dozer (D4 to D6) with ability to cut and fill grade with and without GPS; (2) Excavator (mini-80 to 350 size) with ability to load trucks, excavate a flat grade and dig a pipe trench; and (3) Loader (3-4 yard machines) with ability to load trucks w/dirt, offload material from truck and pick wind rows of dirt.
- Previous experience in railroad crew operations or heavy civil construction.
- Must be able to pass a pre-offer drug test and will be subject to FRA random drug testing.
- Attention to detail is required and good communication skills.
- One or more years of heavy highway or railroad construction preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of and familiarity with general construction site safety requirements.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot problems on equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and federal and state regulations.
- Experience with heavy hand tools, and previous work in an outside environment preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, apply process/procedures, and communicate to manager and team questions, concerns, and information to maintain production and a safe environment.
- Must be able to travel 75-100% of the time.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Safety protocols are extremely important to follow.
- Follow all safety training and procedures displaying clear understanding through demonstration of safe work practices.
- Refer to and comply with instructions, requests, orders, and information posted within bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulatory guidance/manuals.
- Must be able to complete and pass requirements for background check and drug screening.
- Ability to obtain eRailSafe badge approval required.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS Position reports to the Superintendent and is expected to operate under moderate supervisory involvement, depending on the task and the incumbent's knowledge and ability to complete the task. All other staff remain available for information, advice, guidance, or assistance if needed and may provide training, coaching, and feedback as appropriate. This position supervises no employees depending on managerial needs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The Operator will frequently stand, walk, climb, and move throughout the workday, use their hands, repeat the same movements, and bend or twist their body while working equipment and conducting work. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. Frequently move objects up to 60 lbs. Exposed to loud noise with possible exposure to live tracks and trains as well as high voltage areas.WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical environment requires the employee to work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. This position works in a very manual work environment with frequent outdoor facilities and spends time between manual work and equipment operations.
