Must have initiative to run a project in the absence of direct supervision. Works under direction of the Street Superintendent/City Engineer or City Administrator. All other reasonable duties assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Is knowledgeable in the care and use of all equipment used by Street Department employees.Must be able to maintain and be proficient in the operations of assigned equipment, such as, but not limited to, grader, excavator, and snow plowing operations.Makes sure that all equipment is properly maintained and functioning appropriately, taking appropriate measures to get equipment repaired in a timely fashion with minimal downtime.Attends all assigned safety classes and abide by all safety rules so as to serve as a role model for crews.May attend from time to time classes dealing with job related items of interest and pertaining to equipment used in the Public Works arena.Responsible for notifying supervisor of locates needed before any type of excavation is started.On call 24-7 for emergencies. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Physical Requirements: Employee is required to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Must be able to operate motorized equipment and power tools. Employee must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time while performing operations and other duties as assigned. Frequently interacts with consumers, employees, supervisors, and contractors via verbal communication. Required to assist in the actual performance of maintenance or construction work. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
