United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJCES) serves as a coordinating body of neighborhood, secular, civic and fraternal organizations. Formed in 1971 by neighborhood leaders and residents, the UJCES works to preserve and stabilize the Lower East Side of Manhattan community through the provision of a wide range of human services and community development programs. UJCES also operates a wide range of programs for individuals and families.
WHAT: UJCES is looking for Food Pantry Assistance Volunteers who fluently speak Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) to assist with packing pantry items, stocking shelves, handing out packages to clients, and assisting clients with on-site order requests (where language fluency is needed). Volunteers must be 14+ years old to volunteer. Sign up on your own, or with a group of friends, family, or coworkers (group of 4 maximum).
WHEN: Shifts are on Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Volunteers can serve a one-time shift, though UJCES encourages longer terms of service.

United Jewish Council of Lower East Side runs senior recreation centers as well as social services, food assistance, and home healthcare programs. New York Cares partners with this organization and others to address hunger in all five boroughs.
