Application deadline for this position is July 8th, 2024Position Summary:Prepare herbarium specimens in a standard, archival process.Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare scientific plant specimens in the final step of their preservation process. Specimens have been previously pressed and dried and will be preserved permanently by gluing and sewing them to herbarium paper.Exercise judgement in this process in order to handle a wide variety of specimens.Repair existing herbarium specimens by re-gluing and sewing onto paper.Occasionally participate in public outreach by giving demonstrations of this process to visitors to the Herbarium.Qualifications:Capable of delivering accurate and efficient work.Excellent eye-hand coordination.Minimum of a H.S. diploma; college coursework, esp. in biology, preferred.Background in design, art or craft desirable.Physical Demands and Work Environment:Able to work in a stationary position, standing and sitting for extended periods using fine motor skills with hands.
