Position Type: Administration/Dean/Athletic DirectorDate Posted: 10/21/2024Location: Gibson CIty-Melvin Sibley CUSD #5District: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Community Unit School District #5 Position Title: Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Department: Administration Reports To: Building Principal and Superintendent Revised Date: January 2023 SUMMARY Assist the Principal in providing the leadership necessary to assure an educational environment which is a safe, attractive, pleasant and productive place in which to work and learn, and support the certified and non-certified staff as they seek to meet the needs of each student. The primary function of the Athletic Director is to manage and oversee the Schools's interscholastic athletic and activity programs and promote the development of each student who participates in the programs. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Serves as principal in the absence of the principal.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, registration/orientation of students and evaluation of staff. Participates in the school and district-based staff development programs.
  • Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the school and addressing special issues as necessary.
  • Facilitates communication between school staff, students, parents and the community.
  • Participates in district level meetings, programs and staff development planning activities.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned certified and non-certified staff members. Recruit, select and orient all new personnel.
  • Enforces student handbooks and assigns consequences for handbook infractions.
  • Assists the principal with professional development.
  • Prepares reports for district or other personnel as needed.
  • Supervises student and staff parking lot.
  • Supervises extracurricular events.
  • Attends IEP meeting assigned by case managers.
  • Works with the local Police Department on criminal investigations involving students and supervises DCFS interviews involving students.
  • Prepares data/reports for other district personnel.
  • Performs other such duties and assumes other such responsibilities as the principal assigns.
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DUTIES
  • Promotes a master budget and supervises equipment and uniform inventories.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations to the building principal.
  • Prepares a master sports calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/events.
  • Coordinates gym use for practices and games with the other district schools and gives final clearance for the use of either the gym or the athletic field. The district building use calendar is utilized to organize these events.
  • Ensures that each coach has verified that each athlete has on file all necessary paperwork as is required.
  • Works with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with trip sheets.
  • Coordinates the hiring and paying of officials, and athletic trainers.
  • Shares responsibility for the proper supervision of home games, ticket sales, and the proper handling and accounting of all monies involved.
  • Assists in selecting, assigning, and evaluating coaching personnel.
  • Plans and supervises an annual recognition program in each sport for all school athletes.
  • Maintains records of the results of all high school athletic contests and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.
  • Conducts annual meetings with the head coaches.
  • Conducts pre and post season meetings with each head coach.
  • Attends regular meetings of the Athletic Conference.
  • Represents the school in an official capacity (district rep) with the Illinois High School Association.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a M.S. in school administration with a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with the Principal Endorsement.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (community, students, parents and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
  • Strong organizational, time management and conflict resolution skills are necessary.
  • Previous experience with athletic programs and/or recreational programs.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Experience facilitating communication between divergent groups and in group decision making.
  • Effective administrative and management skills, including the effective utilization of computers, technology, and information management tools.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees, parents, students, and community.
  • Enforce school district regulations and policies in a professional manner.
