Who We AreSince its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has provided students and families with a successful academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 1200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across 3 sites. Our school's mission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, to demonstrate mastery of the NY State Learning Standards, and to achieve their career aspirations. Challenge cultivates and supports the intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical development of its students and prepares them to be responsible 21st century citizens. To accomplish its mission, Challenge offers a rigorous instructional program in a safe, supportive, technology-infused and data-enriched and social-emotional learning sequence, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and college coursework. It is understood that we are one organization with multiple sites, and it is expected that all members of the team collaborate to support all of our scholars.SCHOOL OVERVIEWChallenge Charter High School (9-12) is the capstone component of the NYSED-authorized K-12 Challenge Prep Charter School. Since its founding in 2010, Challenge Prep has become a successful K-12 program featuring a high school 9-12 Early College and Career and Technology Education (CTE) program for students in Far Rockaway, New York City. Every Challenge High School student has the opportunity to earn a traditional high school diploma, advanced college standing course credits, and/or select from among several career pathway sequences that will incorporate significant on-the-job mentoring and work experience.JOB OVERVIEW: AVIATION: INSTRUCTOR OF PRACTICE The Aviation CTE Teacher will utilize the approved curriculum to assume primary responsibility for in-classroom instruction and assessment of CTE students who have elected the Aviation Pathway. Generally, Aviation students will be enrolled in their junior or senior years and will have completed the prerequisite Careers and Financial Management (CFM) course. Concurrently, the Aviation Teacher will collaborate with the school's WBL/CTE Field Experience Coordinator and school counselors in enabling and monitoring student participation within the certified work-based learning program for each participating CTE diploma candidate. Ongoing Responsibilities
    • Accountable for all aspects of researching, developing, and teaching of flight/ground school curricula
    • Conduct safety classes as required.
    • Assist in the scheduling of flight students in the sim Lab.
    • Collaborate with the CFM teacher, School Counselor(s), and the Digital Resource Liaison to prepare and provide both exploratory and specifically tailored career learning and field experiences as part of each student's multi-year career pathway sequence
    • Make course-related recommendations regarding curriculum, budget, and implementation requirements to building administration, or as requested.
    • Collaborate with the school's School Counselor personnel regarding matters of CTE pupil progress and ongoing individual student career planning.
    • Be accountable for all assigned operational, supervision, and faculty responsibilities as articulated in the high school teaching manual and as directed by the high school administrative team.
    • Set high expectations for students by establishing a daily culture for learning, personally responsible performance, and aspirational planning for one's future.
    • Serve as an ongoing member of the High School's CTE advisory, self-study, and strategic planning committees.
    • Make presentations to promote partnership participation and to report pupil progress as requested.
$62,000 - $90,000 a yearAVIATION- INSTRUCTOR OF PRACTICE- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe AVIATION Teacher candidate must hold or be eligible to receive at least one of the following: orBachelor's degree in Aircraft Operations Maintain Valid FAA licenses in: Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, CFIA, CFII, and an optional Multi EngineEither an ATP or 1,000-Hour RATP certification. •A master's degree in Airport Management or Aviation Management is preferred.. No more than 1 FAA failed checked ride is allowed.
