Position Type: Adult Education/InstructorDate Posted: 10/30/2024Location: Location VariesClosing Date: Until Filled Bay-Arenac ISD Position Description JOB TITLE: Adult High School Completion and GED Prep Instructor DEPARTMENT: Adult Education REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Adult and Continuing Education PREPARED BY: Kimberly Byington DATE: 10/30/2024 APPROVED BY: Becky Smith DATE: 10/30/2024SUMMARY The teacher will educate adult learners and facilitate learning in a computer based learning lab setting at Bay City Michigan Works! This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week. Includes two 2.5 hour classes per day, Monday-Thursday. Class times are 9:00-11:30 am and 12:00-2:30 pm. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Facilitate the instruction of adult learners in academic and elective subjects using computer aided instruction via Edgenuity software.
  • Instruct adult learners functioning at and above the 9.0 grade level in reading and math to prepare them for the GED exam using Essential Education software and other supplemental instructional materials.
  • Complete participant pre and post assessments using the CASAS test.
  • Create a learning environment conducive to student success by using a variety of instructional teaching methods to meet the needs of the students, including one-on-one tutoring.
  • Provide support and encouragement to adult learners.
  • Abide by the information contained in the Instructional Handbook.
  • Complete and submit accurate attendance records after each class session.
  • Complete and submit grades by the required deadlines.
  • Communicate all testing, attendance, and grade information to the Adult Education office in a timely manner.
  • Attend required instructor meetings and professional development trainings.
  • Complies with State and Federal statutes and Board Policy.
  • Be present in buildings with regular and continued attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow all Board Policies, Staff Handbook and Administrative Guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Must hold a valid Michigan teaching license in any subject area 9-12th grade. Edgenuity & Essential Education software training and experience with adult students, preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
