We seek to hire a charismatic, dynamic educator who provides instructional leadership and enhances articulation regarding curriculum alignment with standards, the development and implementation of common assessments, and the use of effective instructional strategies that will meet the needs of all scholars.
Do you have what it takes?
* Education and Experience:
* Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
* At least five (5) years of experience in teaching and educational leadership, preferably in urban school settings; experience in charter schools is highly desirable.
* Proven track record of fostering high student achievement and success in previous educational roles.
* Strong alignment with MPTCS's core values and mission.
* Extensive hands-on experience in supervising and mentoring teachers, along with up-to-date knowledge of effective curricular strategies and interventions.
* Deeply committed to enhancing student achievement with a focus on data-driven, results-oriented practices.
* New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Supervisor/Principal certification is preferred.
* Prior experience in a leadership role such as department chair is an advantage.
THE ROLE:
Instructional Leadership and Supervision, including the capacity to:
* Inspire and model teaching excellence by teaching two classes and other co-teaching periods as assigned;
* Assist teachers with the development of strategies to improve instruction, including classroom management techniques;
* Cooperate with appropriate personnel in the recommendation, placement, and assignment of scholars to levels and special programs;
* Chair all department meetings;
* Establish performance goals and review alignment with PD offerings;
* Conduct informal classroom walk-throughs and observations as well as formal observations and evaluations in accordance with district-approved teacher framework
* Lead the effort in working with middle school department staff and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to coordinate vertical alignment of curriculum throughout the Village;
* Serve as the communication liaison between the teachers of the department, the principal or assigned VP, and other school and community groups;
* Assist new teachers in methodology, technique, material, or any other function needed to enhance their success;
* Provide in-service training and turn-keying of information;
* Assist substitute teachers with classroom management techniques, content preparation, and implementation of lesson plans;
* Ensure high-quality instruction in classes that may have leaves or long-term substitutes; teach classes directly when assigned;
* Conduct routine grade book audits for teachers under their supervision;
* Facilitate peer learning walks.
Curricular Design and Direction:
* Serve as a curriculum leader by assisting in the review of lesson plans, and the development of curriculum, goals, and philosophies;
* Provide leadership to department committees for new text adoptions, and recommend supplementary materials for his/her department. Inventory textbooks and equipment as needed by the administration;
* Develop standards-aligned pacing guides and curriculum;
* Assist with the implementation of new programs;
* Review requests for new equipment, instructional materials, and supplies for the department;
* Organize procedures regarding tests and homework schedules;
* Be knowledgeable in new trends and developments within his/her departmental content area, and recommend pilot or experimental programs for consideration.
Assessment and Data-Driven Management:
* Select, use, and interpret evaluation data;
* Provide guidance and assistance in the maintenance of required diagnostics/prescriptive profiles, records, and portfolios;
* Produce customized feedback for teachers on how to use data to drive scholar achievement;
* Help to administer tests, analyze test results, and develop strategies to improve instruction;
* Host content-focused family engagement workshops and events to establish and strengthen the school-to-family connection.
Other Responsibilities
* Coordinate department duties including preparation of reports, agendas, minutes, and surveys;
* Manage the recruitment and hiring process for the staff members within their departments
* Cultivate a positive staff culture within their department to strengthen teacher retention
* Develop one content-related school-wide/community event
* Meet with building administrators and other department chairperson(s) to facilitate articulation;
* Organize and guide conferences and communications with scholars, parents, support staff, and other teams;
* Provide input to the master schedule;
* Participate and encourage team members to participate in all school-wide activities;
* Assume responsibility for bulletin board displays which should include timely topics and ideas shared with team members;
* Administer the budget and resources if allocated to the department;
* Any other duties assigned by the building principal.
* Salary: Starting at $105,000
