Special Education High School Math Teacher The Calais School is a state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs. The school serves students in grades K through 12 Plus with multiple learning disabilities. It is our goal to help each and every child realize and build on their strengths and gifts. Position Summary The High School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective math instruction to students with a range of learning, emotional, physical, and mental disabilities; this includes planning and implementing lessons, assessing student progress, and collaborating with parents and colleagues to support student achievement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Develop and deliver engaging math lessons that meet the diverse learning needs of students. Evaluate students' abilities, strengths, and areas of improvement through formal and informal assessments to inform instruction and support. Teach students in whole-class and small-group settings, maintaining an organized and inclusive classroom environment. Grade assignments and assessments, providing timely feedback to students and parents/guardians on academic progress. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about students' progress, addressing concerns and collaborating on strategies for student success. Work with individual students to challenge their abilities and promote skill development. Prepare students for standardized tests as required by the state, implementing test-taking strategies and accommodations as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Develop and enforce classroom rules and behavior expectations, fostering a positive and respectful learning environment. Implement and manage the behavior modification program, including maintaining tokens for each student during the class day. Supervise students outside of the classroom during non-instructional times, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Math or related field; Master's preferred Certification in NJ Special Education (Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities) Praxis Endorsement in Math or Teacher of Math Certification Required Experience or strong interest in working with students with disabilities in an educational setting. Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage parents/guardians in the educational process. Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. Proficient in Google Workspace and RealTime. Ability to work independently and on an interdisciplinary team.
