Title: High School Emotional Support Teacher
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from an accredited institution, PA Special Education certification Reports to: High School Principal/Director of Pupil Services
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Create a safe, positive classroom environment, provide individualized learning, and use a variety of resources to ensure the success of students with disabilities Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals Establish and maintain student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities Collaborate and consult with educational professionals (i.e., school psychologist, related service providers, social worker, etc.) regarding the needs of students Work collaboratively with general education teachers on behavioral and instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion Employ and implement a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures Complete all necessary special education paperwork as mandated by Chapter 14 Coordinate and facilitate IEP meeting for students Monitor student progress by collecting and analyzing data in order to make data-based decisions about the programming and placement of students Maintains professional competence through participation in staff development activities provided by the District, LIU, or other approved educational providers Participates in meetings/conferences with parents, teachers, other professional staff, and administrators as necessary to support student progress Provide direction and supervision of classroom paraprofessionals, as directed Possess knowledge of state, federal and Board policies, guidelines, and procedures and the rights and responsibilities of parents, students, teachers and schools as they relate to individuals with special needs York Suburban High School is searching for a Special Education Teacher with an emphasis in Emotional Support.
