The Physical Sciences Department at the RTX Technologies Research Center (East Hartford, CT) has an open position for a Research Technician to work on our High Temperature Materials Team. The position will involve playing an active role on a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that develops high temperature materials for aerospace and defense applications.

The position requires technical skills and hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of a variety of materials science laboratory equipment. Examples include high temperature furnaces, hot presses, powder preparation equipment, and coating deposition systems. Direct experience with such equipment is ideal but not required; demonstrated hands-on experience in adjacent fields is acceptable. Experience in the following fields may provide relevant skills: automotive; HVAC; aircraft maintenance; machining and fabrication; electrical, plumbing, and other trades.

The Research Technician will support the development and characterization of advanced materials, including metals, ceramics, composites, and thermal / environmental barrier coatings.

What You Will Do:

Synthesis and preparation of high temperature materials and coating feedstocks.

Operation and maintenance of furnaces and custom-built high temperature testing rigs.

Documentation and communication of experimental results.

The preferred candidate will be capable of excelling both as an individual contributor, as well as in a team environment with the ability and desire to learn new skills.

Qualifications You Must Have:

The successful candidate will have a combination of the following experience:

* Demonstrated understanding of operation and maintenance of experimental laboratory equipment related to high temperature materials processing and testing.

* Experience with instrumentation related to the measurement of temperatures, pressures, and flows of liquids and gases.

* Proven ability to create, maintain, and organize accurate and thorough records related to laboratory experiments and instrumentation.

* Strong technical judgement with ability to self-direct and see projects through to completion with minimal oversight.

* Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently with limited direction.

* U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Direct knowledge and hands-on experience in programming custom software-controlled laboratory equipment (e.g. LabView programming).

* Hands-on experience with operating, maintaining, and repairing high temperature material processing and testing instrumentation.

* Basic knowledge of electronics and low voltage wiring for instrumentation and controls.

* Experience with commercial data acquisition hardware and software tools.

* Bachelor's Degree

Education:

Diploma with 10 years experience or an AA/AS with minimum of 6 years experience.

AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

The salary range for this role is 44,000 USD - 102,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
