The work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching , stretching, climbing vertical ladders (up to 50 feet), and crouching. Additionally, may work on top of, under, or in tight compartments in cramped or awkward positions. May perform strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. The work requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, without assistance, and exerting of similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies and equipment is required. The employee is sometimes required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights and is also required to work from skiffs, small craft, and floating barges.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both indoors and outside. The employee is subject to prevailing weather conditions, extreme temperature, wet, and/or icy conditions when working outside. The employee is subject to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat, and fumes when working either inside or outside. Incumbent works in spaces containing installed asbestos. The employee is subject to cuts, bums, chemical irritations, bruises, electrical shock, and other injuries resulting from falls or hazards of the occupation when making repairs, or when positioning and/or moving equipment. The employee must follow prescribed safety practices, and use appropriate safety equipment (e.g. , protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, respirators, protective clothing, etc.), which is provided. Some safety items may be uncomfortable to wear, or may be required to be worn for prolonged periods of time. The working environment is typical of, and includes all the hazards of, a shipboard, shipyard, and/or marine environment, including working in adverse climatic conditions and on slippery decks.
