The Opportunity WSDOT North Central Region is currently seeking a regionwide crew lead in Wenatchee. This working crew lead is a member of the region-wide maintenance organization tasked with working with and assisting other WSDOT work groups. This position may be situationally assigned to work with and/or under a number of different work group structures depending on needs of the region on a day to day basis. This position performs a variety of skilled highway maintenance tasks while maintaining personal, co-worker and public safety as a primary objective in the planning and performance of all work assignments. The position is responsible for maintenance and repair of highways, bridges, overpasses, and other highway structures to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and commerce. What to Expect This position performs work that is often physical in nature and performed primarily outdoors, often next to high-volume, high-speed traffic. This position requires the ability to respond to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, alone or a part of a team as needed.Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Worker 3 will:
- Plan, train, work with and give direction to crews providing assistance to area maintenance crews and other work groups.
- Set signs and other traffic control devices in accordance with WSDOT standards, guidelines and safety policies.
- Work as a flagger and participate in Work zone traffic control activities.
- Drive long distances in mobile operation traffic control situations or as a buffer vehicle.
- Load or unload materials.
- Shovel, carry objects, hold equipment or tools, install, application, or layout of highway pavement markings such as stop bars, arrows, pedestrian crossings.
- Pavement repair and maintenance, roadway safety feature repair and maintenance
- guardrail installation and maintenance
- drainage maintenance and repair, repair and maintenance of the directional, regulatory and warning signs
- removal of animal remains
- roadway debris, debris sweeping and cleaning.
- Removal of brush, trees and other roadway obstructions.
- Remove litter and litter bags.
- Install and repair fences.
- Snow and Ice control to include plowing.
- Shovel, or blow snow and application of anti-icing products.
- Account for inventory and inventories highway section.
- Prepare and complete K-job paperwork.
Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- Two (2) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, or traffic control.
- Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification. (or obtain within 6 months)
- Possession of a valid Traffic Control/Flagging card with experience performing traffic control per MUTCD including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging.
- Washington Class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restriction.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- High school graduation, or possession of a GED certificate, or equivalent
- Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
- Experience leading and/or supervising crews, providing clear direction, and making good decisions in stressful
- conditions.
- Experience in working independently and prioritizing workload, with the ability to handle multiple assignments.

- In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. - This positions duty station may be reassigned, based on need as determined by the ARA for Maintenance, within Area 1 (Leavenworth, Blewett Pass, Stevens Pass, Wenatchee, Chelan, or Waterville), for winter shift.
