Job Responsibilities
Operates equipment to include but not limited to, tandem dump truck, large roller (4 tons), and skid steer. Performs common maintenance activities such as limb and brush trimming, sign and pavement marking maintenance, shoulder and ditch maintenance. Works with a crew of maintenance employees utilizing proper maintenance techniques, while performing duties using manual labor during roadway and right-of-way maintenance activities. Area of work may include but not limited to, driveway installation and maintenance, construction of drainage appurtenances, maintenance of drainage appurtenances, litter/debris removal, vegetation management, bridge maintenance, and patching/paving. Maintains working knowledge and practices of Work Zone safety in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Flags traffic in low and high volume areas to control flow of traffic for protection of workers, equipment and general public during maintenance operations. Assists in the placement of traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies and procedures according to fleet safety. Operates standard dump truck while hauling material, supplies and equipment to and from job sites. Operates small equipment, power tools, and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and salt spreader to remove snow and ice from roadways and bridges. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
