As a Maintenance Aide I your regular work schedule will be 7am-3pm with the exception of winter operations! You will be physically active throughout the day with a variety of duties! This position is responsible for assisting the Highway Division road crews with maintenance and repair of City streets sidewalks and drainage systems. This includes the use of a jackhammer digging shoveling and lifting. The Maintenance Aide I also cleans and repairs catch basins repairs damage caused by snowplows plows and removes snow mows and maintains lawns and sweeps sidewalks among other duties assigned! Note: This position is subject to recall and stand-by duty during non-regular working hours weekends and holidays. In addition if holding a commercial driver's license (CDL) this position is subject to federal CDL drug and alcohol requirements. This position should be able to respond within 60 minutes depending on weather conditions to staff the work site. Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education/experience. A valid driver's license is required and a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is desired; Level I Roads Scholar License desired. Pay and Benefits: During the 6-month probationary period the pay range for this position is $16.09- $17.57 per hour. Upon successful completion of the probationary period this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $17.79- $21.21 per hour depending on experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform manual labor to assist Highway Division road crews with maintenance and repair of City streets; sidewalks; and drainage systems. This includes use of jackhammer; digging; shoveling; and lifting.
Occasionally operate equipment to assist Highway Division road crews.
Clean and repair catch basins.
Repair damage caused by snowplows. This includes repair of mailboxes; lawns; and sidewalks.
Plow and remove snow.
Mow and maintain lawns. Prune vegetation.
Sweep sidewalks.
Paint; as required.
Perform general housekeeping duties.
Possess ability to work with power tools and operate equipment.
Note: Among the power tools and equipment generally used by this position are lawn mower; chain saw; jackhammer; pipe saw; cement mixer; sidewalk plow; snowblower; 1-ton truck; curb machine; asphalt roller; crack sealing equipment; brush chipper; and brush saw.
Note: This position is subject to stand-by duty and recall during non-regular working hours; weekends; and holidays. In addition; this position is subject to Federally mandated random drug testing. A. Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus one to three months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
B. Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; short correspondence; and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to customers; clients; and other employees of the organization.
C. Computer Skills
None required.
D. Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement; volume; and distance.
E. Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
F. Certificates; Licenses; Registrations
Valid NH driver's license; required.
Valid NH commercial driver's license (CDL); desired.
Level I Roads Scholar License; desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position involves light to heavy physical labor. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit or talk or hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to focus.
Work Environment
The noise is loud to very loud. This position frequently involves work in outdoor weather conditions which vary depending on the season. There is frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and high or precarious places. There is occasional exposure of fumes or airborne particles chemicals and vibration.
