$17.99 - $27.89 Hourly$37,422 - $58,003 AnnuallyThis position is a Pay Band 50Posting DetailsDistrict Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways. This position is in located at the District Five Dulce Patrol.THIS POSTING WILL BE USED FOR ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. APPLICANT LISTS MAY BE SCREENED MORE THAN ONCE. Why does the job exist?This position operates medium to heavy-duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner to maintain highways and roadways for the safety of the traveling public. How does it get done?Incumbent will operate single axle dump trucks, large or small front-end loaders, some pull type tractors, self-propelled brooms, and rollers. Incumbent performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties required in the patrol and uses various hand tools. This position will also perform snow removal in the winter season, respond to emergency operations including call outs, and trash removal, as well as dead animals from Right-of-Way. Ideal CandidateThe Ideal Candidate will have experience in the following:-Roadway maintenance activities,-Basic traffic control experience,-Operating medium to heavy-duty equipment,-Using various hand tools, and-Customer service. Minimum QualificationHigh School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, five- and ten-yard dump trucks, self-propelled brooms, rollers, or mowers. Must possess a valid drivers license and a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL), (or equivalent licenses from another state) within one (1) year of hire. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement. Substitution TableThese combinations of education and experience qualify you for the position: Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND # of months or years of experience specified in the minimum qualification 2 Associate's Degree AND Zero years of experience Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position. If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of semester hours in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.Employment RequirementsThis position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License, and must have or obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year of hire. Tanker Endorsement may be required. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results. Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 75% or better. Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, high speed/high volume traffic, interaction with the public, local county, school and city officials by phone an in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays; extended or irregular hours day or night; and call-out away from post of duty to include night time work and snow removal as applicable are required.
