By joining our Rockcastle County Unit as a Highway Technician Super I in Rockcastle County, you'll have the opportunity to supervise work of highway roadway or roadside and construction operations in Rockcastle County.
Holders of the Highway Technician Super I position will complete tasks such as:
* Supervises, schedules, and assists employees in the highway maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, culverts, guardrails, roadside vegetation, traffic signs, pavement markings, delineation, etc.
* Provides technical assistance and oversight on highway maintenance projects and inspects work for completion.
* Maintains an adequate Inventory of materials, equipment and supplies for highway projects.
* Communicates with public officials and citizens in regards to roadway maintenance and emergency responses.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
* Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates.
* Experience in equipment operations for road maintenance.
* Experience completing shift or on-call schedules.
* Experience working with strict deadlines.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
* Basic equipment operating experience.
* Basic maintenance and /or construction experience.
* Experience performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have ten years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology, or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Leadership Level 1 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Must be able to respond to emergencies 24/7.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
