New York Techs College of Osteopathic Medicine, seeks a HIPAA Compliance Officer & Instructor located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.

The HIPAA Compliance Officer is the individual responsible for implementing and maintaining our organizations privacy policies and ensuring the security of protected health information (PHI). This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining the organizations policies and procedures per HIPAA regulations.

The HIPAA Compliance Officer for Academic Health Care centers of NYITCOM provides oversight for HIPAA Privacy Rule policies and program development, implementation, and enforcement matters. The Academic Health Care centers of NYITCOM includes the Academic Health Care Center, Family Health Care Center, The Community Free Clinics, and the NYITCOM at Arkansas State Medical Clinic.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure effective coordination and documentation of HIPAA privacy program activities;
  • Recommend resources necessary to accomplish program objectives;
  • Approve HIPAA privacy program policies and procedures that are equivalent to and consistent with NYIT privacy policies;
  • Direct completion of related risk assessment activities;
  • Identify urgent and emergent issues including data breaches, and interpret data breach notification requirements; The HIPPA compliance officer will coordinate with NYIT General Counsel and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) as appropriate.
  • Serve as the contact point for patients who wish to exercise their privacy rights;
  • Educate workforce members about their responsibilities related to patient privacy; and
  • Work closely with senior leadership and compliance staff to enforce HIPAA privacy policies.
Qualifications:

JD, or DO/MD with experience or interest in this area.
