Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Engineer or Architect with expertise in historical preservation and disaster recovery to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (SOI Standards) and will play a crucial role in preserving Florida's historic structures while implementing disaster recovery programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and Document Historical Sites: Conduct thorough assessments of historical buildings and sites to determine their condition and preservation needs.
- Plan and Oversee Preservation Projects: Develop and manage projects aimed at preserving and restoring historic structures, ensuring compliance with SOI Standards.
- Disaster Recovery Planning: Collaborate with disaster recovery teams to integrate historical preservation into recovery plans, ensuring that historic properties are protected and restored post-disaster.
- Grant Applications and Funding: Identify and apply for grants and other funding opportunities to support preservation and recovery projects.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with historical societies, local communities, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective preservation strategies.
- Construction Coordination: Oversee construction teams to ensure that preservation techniques and materials used are appropriate and respect the historical integrity of the structures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding historic preservation.
- Reporting and Presentation: Prepare and present detailed reports and findings to planning bodies, public groups, and clients.
- Guidance and Consultation: Provide expert advice on preservation techniques and standards to other professionals, including historians, archaeologists, and planners.
Qualifications:
- Education: Professional degree in Engineering, Architecture, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in historic preservation, restoration, and disaster recovery projects.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of SOI Standards and local, state, and federal preservation regulations.
- Skills: Strong project management, design, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in historic preservation or disaster recovery are a plus.
